Bug slayer
So I ordered some fermented wood substrate from insect brothers and on the bag there is a lot of white mold at the top of the bag the bag is sealed and I am wondering if I need to throw it away or if there is any way to salvage it. In the future shout I dry it out and then keep it in a sealed bag and rehydrate it when needed.
Bug slayer
Also just saying the mold almost looks likes someone squirted a lot of mayo at the top.

Reyes
Interesting. Maybe microwave or freeze the substrate.
Oak
I would completely dry out the substrate if you don't plan on using your substrate anytime soon

kevink
Sterilization requires heat. My experience with mycology is that fungi live outdoors, cold and or dry conditions may result in simple hibernation of the fungal organism. Use an oven on low heat. Be careful. Bug slayer
Thanks but my kitchen is being renovated so I have no oven😑
JKim
When did you make a purchase? Was it right before you posted this????? If not, this thread seems quite misleading as if they sell moldy substrate 😅
Bug slayer
No it got moldy a month after I purchased it, but I have already fixed the problem.
Dynastes TItyus hunter
I think it's just that it was too hot and fungus grew.
