dorcus7913 Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Im not sure if it's ok to breed foreign beetles in USA or not. I know that it's illegal to breed any foreign bugs but I saw so many foreign bug breeders in NY tho. If you breed any foreign bugs, how do you hide them from us gov? Quote
Hisserdude Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Well for one thing, the police don't come knocking down your door to inspect for illegal insects, so you don't really need to hide them. Also, the reasons for certain beetles being illegal to ship are very stupid, and unjustified. Breeding the beetles isn't the illegal part, shipping them is. Quote
Oak Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Apparently stag beetles are legal in CA Quote

So can you tell me exactly what is illegal for breeding beetle? Is it still ok to breed Chiron beetle? Quote

Hisserdude Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Just type in "legal" in the search, there are quite a few helpful threads there. Quote
vinegaroonie Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Wait foreign stag beetles are allowed in CA? Wat? Quote
Oak Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Wait foreign stag beetles are allowed in CA? Wat? Yup Quote
Ratmosphere Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Some people buy them regardless of the laws. However, there is a big fine if you get caught along with imprisonment. Quote
Hisserdude Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Really? Prison? I'm sorry but even if somebody brought a harmful invasive insect, that seems quite excessive! People get killed in prison! Quote
Oak Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 I doubt you go to prison. I have seen people getting caught(which is pretty dam rare) and they only had to pay fines. Quote
Beetle-Experience Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 I'm pretty sure that exotic lucanids are not legal in California. Also, you could get into trouble by just having/ breeding exotics. Between states would be USDA, inside a state would be FWS. Almost everything that we would find "cool" to breed would be illegal without a permit. Quote
Beetle-Experience Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 dung beetles and ground beetles are exceptions... Quote
Beetle-Experience Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 ..checking into the California / Lucanid thing - will post my findings Quote

InsectaJaeger888 Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 Apparently stag beetles are legal in CA Really? I had no idea and how interesting Quote
Beetle-Experience Posted February 14, 2016 Report Posted February 14, 2016 InsectaJaeger888 - exotic Lucanids are not legal in CA (or any US state) without a few permits.. Quote
InsectaJaeger888 Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 A few permits??? exactly how many permits does one person need to make this a legal process? Quote
InsectaJaeger888 Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 You know what forget I asked I'll just stick to native species then besides I have all the necessary materials, mats and logs to breed Lucanus Elaphus. Now I just need to wait for someone to start selling adult pairs. Quote
