Dcpac
I have never been into taking pictures and know very little about cameras. That being said I find myself wanting to take pictures of some of my beetles. Can anyone recommend a camera that is good for macro, but not super expensive ? muddymire
Hey! I recommend macro filters if you have access to a DSLR. Decent enough and it'll only be 30 dollars. If you don't have a DSLR or access to one you're gonna have to most likely buy one. Micro lenses are usually above 350 new, above 500 for Nikon brand, pretty lucky to find one for cheaper (used in good condition is only a hundred off) Nikon d40x with a kit lens and macro filters to be "cheapest and best", pretty decent shooting in RAW. But people might know a good point and shoot, but I'd be cautious.
Max
What's your budget for the camera?
Greatwun
I've been using a Cannon Rebel T3i. Very nice camera although I haven't picked up a macro lens yet.
LarvaHunter
For cheap you can use a DSLR with a 50 mm lens, extention tubes and reversed lenses. The photographer Thomas Shahan uses these techniques and he has very impressive Insect photos. If you have the money it's worth getting a real macro lens though. Bill Myers
I took apart an old SLR telephoto attachment and used one of the convex lenses in front of my digital camera to magnify my beetles. You have to use manual focus, but that's no problem once you get the hang of it. Cheers
