cre0broter
found two larvae, I believe they are stags: thanks!
axlopez
Hi, cre0broter they are stag larvae their probably lesser stag beetle but I don't know much about stag
Dynastes
They are most likely Ceruchus piceus, a very common tiny stag. The males have spectacular jaws. Like other small species the larvae don't like to be disturbed.

Dynastes
The pictures aren't perfectly clear which precludes absolute certaintly but they're not Pseudolucanus or Lucanus.

I also noticed many grubs have black on them, while some are purely white. are they different species? how can I find Lucanus larvae? Peter Clausen
The grubs should feed on other tree species, depending on the level of decay in the wood. Soft and crumbly is good. Wood from hardwood trees is best. Your other questions will be better answered by others. What kind of ground beetles did you find? Anything large or showy? I am pretty sure the wood I am looking in is oak or maple, it is kinda reddish, like what that other guy found larvae in, found pupae, and a huge beetle I think may be a female stag, I'll get and post a pic of it, ground beetles, termites, ants, and like a dozen larvae of what we believe to be Ceruchus piceus, be back soon with the pic. I think I have enough wood for the grubs to eat, most already tunneled into it.

Dynastes
That's a nice ground beetle, what size is it in millimeters? The green bug is a Zelus assassin and the grub is a longhorn beetle larva.

I have 2 longhorn larvae now. do you know the exact species? the ground beetle appears to be a european ground beetle, I'd say maybe 26mm long, also got several common ground beetles, and I found pupae, which I'll post pics of soon. Lucanus
I love this species! They are very cute and small. I acquired 12 larvae last year but they all disappeared. I gave them the wood where they were collected.
