Zephyr
Collected these out of a chunk of wood about 16" wide and 24" tall. There were quite a few of them. They're about as big as a dime. Zephyr
I'm starting to think the above larvae are some other beetle, maybe Osmoderma? I'm pretty sure these are stags; These were collected from a completely different site; I managed to find 5 (the mosquitoes were killing me!) Underneath is the type of wood they were found in; kinda reddish. They're about 3/4 the size of a dime.
Peter Clausen
I'm seeing what you're seeing, Zephyr. Nice finds! That red wood looks more like conifer than deciduous???

Also, it's really the only type of rotten wood I ever find larvae in oddly.
Lucanus
The 3 larvae in the first thread are probably Valgus sp. The larva in the second thread is Ceruchus sp.
Ryan Minard
Valgus are very cool tiny beetles. Raise them!
