Jncxity Posted February 21, 2014 Report Share Posted February 21, 2014 I found both of these in a rotten oak log. The big one is over 2 inches long. I was wondering if anyone is familiar enough with longhorns to guess at a species. Does anyone know the best way to keep them? Right now I just have them in some of the rotten wood I found them in. From reading online, it seems a lot of species need live or fresh wood, but these were in really wet rotting wood, so I'm a bit confused on that. LarvaHunter Posted February 21, 2014 Report Share Posted February 21, 2014 I have 2 prioninae larvae right now. They do great on decomposted wood. Normal substrate moisture. I can't tell you your species although I could narrow it down to a few species. Was the dead tree on the ground? Was the decayed wood you foun them in soft or hard? Jncxity Posted February 21, 2014 Author Report Share Posted February 21, 2014 The tree was on the ground. It was firm, but wet and soft enough that I could pull the layers of wood apart by hand. There is a video on YouTube man eats larva Where bear grillis pulls out prioninae out of a fallen dead tree, then calls it a rhino beetle larva and eats it raw till its head explodes, he makes a fool of himself.
