Lucanus
I've never seen any Calosoma larvae under rotten logs so collecting them through this method doesn't seem to be ideal for my state. But I guess I can try putting a log in cage
Dynastes
In nature they lay the eggs in the dirt under loose bark on rotten logs so you'd want some moist dirt and possibly some isopods or other inverts. I've reared them before but I didn't get very many eggs and ended up with two adult beetles. The cage had some very small logs and a bunch of isopods. Thank you for the tip I'll try this method when I collect some Calosomas next year
