Dynastes Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 I found a pair of these last year miles apart. This is the male. The female is completely black and has normal antennae. Both have good sized mandibles and were around 20mm. I haven't searched much for identification information but I've never seen this beetle before ever. Anybody familiar with these? Quote
Lucanus Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 They are Cicada parasite (Genus Sandalus). Really interesting species Larvae feed on Cicada nymphs. Quote
Regiarbol Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 That sure is an interesting catch! The body resembles a Cerambycid, but the antennae look like those of the Polyphylla sp. but it's an entirely different group! Quote
