Do you mean carabids and tenebrionids in nature? They're active but probably digging holes to hide out for the winter already. In captivity this is the time of year Dynastes tityus usually are pupating and becoming adults.
Just found a huge Eleodes hispilabris here in the middle of Kansas at 40F walking around. Brought her inside and she's eating. Hopefully I'll even get some late eggs out of her.
