I had the best of luck near Western Chocktaw County, MS. I had never found any Lucanids, not even the tiny Platycerus and Ceruchus. In the particular spot (I will not specify due to conservation concerns), I found D. tityus, Hogna spiders, fiery searchers, Narceus millipedes, and more than a dozen L1 Lucanid larvae. After finding 2 dead L. capreolus adults, I immediately knew what my larvae were! Now I have many large, plump L3 Capreolus larvae!
