cfreidsma
Found this in Grand Haven Michigan in a wood pile. At first I thought it was some sort of larva, but realized it has wings. This thing had me confused for a few minutes. I am thinking it is some species of rove beetle. Assuming it is carnivorous for now.
Hisserdude
Yes, it is indeed a rove beetle, my guess is Platydracus maculosus, see here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/14441 Live, soft bodied prey like small crickets/roaches or mealworms should work nicely as a diet.
