WTB / WTT for any Chlaenius specimens

Hello Everyone,

I am looking to pull together as many specimens / species of the genus Chlaenius from North America that I can.

Chlaenius are easy to find ground beetles that typically occur under rocks, downed wood & debris along streams, ponds, and moist areas - although species are also known from prairies and uplands as well.

Here is what I am interested in:

1) up to 10 specimens of a given species from a given locality

2) killed by freezing or in alcohol (everclear, ethanol) - but NOT ethyl acetate or anything else that would affect DNA.

3) interested in the same species from different locations provided the locations are in some way geographically isolated.

Here is the bugguide page on these guys for more info:

I have quite a bit of dry/dead stock I would trade or exchange (buprestids, tiger beetles, Carabus spp. etc) or I would discuss a purchase if we can figure out a reasonable value.

I know its a long shot, BUT if anyone is out collecting and flipping rocks and wants to nab these up for me let me know.

Feel free to hit me up to discuss and THANKS!

TRACKING SO FAR:

Specimens received: 13

Species received: 2

States covered: 1

Counties covered: 1

I don't know if I'll be able to help, but I will definitely be on the lookout during my future beetle hunting expeditions! This is a really cool collection you're making and I hope others here can help you out!

Cool, if you find any let me know.

If you flip rocks, logs, bark, and misc. junk along any stream or lakeshore almost anywhere in the US, you WILL start finding Chlaenius!! And a few species are attracted to lights at night in large numbers on occasion.

And I have NONE from Florida yet!

I'm over in MD tearing apart dead trees and I've been finding tons lately! They're so fast though I can hardly take a good look without them disappearing.

Just grab em by the handfuls and toss them in a tupperware. Then check them out in a controlled environment.

And THEN toss them all in alcohol or freeze them and send them my way!!!!!!!!!!

I only have 3-4 from Maryland and there should be numerous eastern species you can find.

Long weekend coming up folks - go flip some logs around your nearest lake or stream and catch some Chlaenius!

Operation Chlaenius is still in effect!

If you are out bug hunting or flipping logs along a creek or lake you are sure to find Chlaenius!

Let me know & lets work out a trade or sale!
