Spider Beetles! FS

Hi,

2021 ready

The spider beetles are ready for new homes

The weather seems to be cooperating.

$13 gets one starter cup including priority shipping, $18 for two, and any more I will have to weigh them and figure out shipping for a price. Sorry for the $3 raise, I got the estimated shipping wrong

The $7-$8 priority shipping is included in the $13

I will also consider a trade for desert darklings.

I urge you to look and see what the weather is supposed to be like in your area to make sure that it will not get to freezing. These guys are durable, but not freezable

How do you care for these guys?
Pretty much the same way you do a mealworm colony minus the wet foods. I haven't tried giving them anything like potatoes. They are more of a dry food type of colony.

I have been keeping mine in two decent sized clear totes with air holes. Substrate/bedding is oatmeal, and then some paper towel rolls to climb on. They really like dry foods such as cat, dog, and other pelleted foods to. These seem to be better for the larva, but pretty much anything works.

Larva are laid on the food, and they dig into it. They stay inside of whatever they were laid on, and then pupate in little pouches they make from it. I have noticed that when they are only presented with oatmeal, the larva make soft pouches against the bottom of the tote. When presented with cat food, I think they pupate inside the food if they can. I haven't seen a larva or pupa of them yet as they are tiny though.

I haven't been giving them any water, but I gave them a moist cotton ball and they love it. I'll be keeping one in every colony from now on assuming no harm comes from it.

There are still plenty of these guys left

$13 gets one starter cup, $5 for each additional cup.

The priority shipping is included in the initial price. If you desire extra mailing services (like signature, overnight, etc) then extra will be needed.

There are lots of these little guys still available to anyone interested.

Other "pest" species are of interest for trading also.

I just wanted to say, that the Spider Beetles I got from you a year ago, are still doing great!

I keep them on coco fiber, with lots of wood hides, and feed them pieces of fish food and organic dog biscuits. On occasion, they get small pieces of moist food (fruit or bug jelly - which they love) or an occasional spray of water, but are often kept very dry. They are one of the easiest inverts I've ever raised (in my 20ish years of invert keeping) and they are one of my favorite! I feel like I will always keep Spider Beetles!

Thanks for making them available!

Mine are doing great too! They have oatmeal substrate with a chunk of cork bark to hide in, and they get pieces of dog food and occasionally a q-tip soaked in water. They're in a clear container, so I can see the teeny-tiny pupae in their cells buried in the oatmeal.

This might be a dumb question but can you keep them with other beetles?

I have a small group of death feigning beetles, tiny buffalo beetles, and some zophobas beetles.

Hmm, I've never kept them with anything. If you keep them with death feigning beetles they might colonize the food. Keeping them with Zophobas (morio?) would probably work. It would be more of a fight for resources though as spider beetles lay eggs in the food.
