Large oak paradise

Oh I am sorry I meant how long it took you to find a suitable tree! Also would you kindly re-post the images? They aren't appearing it's showing them as broken links.

Finding a suitable tree depends on your luck. I usually run across them while I am collecting in forest. It usually takes me few hours to find suitable tree but it can take days and nights!

Thank-you Lucanus! That helps a lot I went looking for about an hour and a half yesterday near this museum park trail, but had no luck.

I'm going to try going again tomorrow and Friday and I am hoping to at least find one. I'm so envious of your luck! I can barely find a male and a female let alone together! I will investigate every tree though just to ensure I have a chance. That's an oak tree correct? Do you also live in SC? I live in NC.

No... I live in SC though. Upstate. What part of NC you live in?

Thanks Orin for the information I saw a lot of click beetle near the larvae so I believe it may have been!

And thanks Lucanus I will update this with any finds if I find any larvae or beeltes!

And Ryan I live in Statesville, NC roughly 50-ish minutes from Charlotte NC and about an hour and a half to two hours from upper SC.

Oh nice yeah I'm not into that part of my hobby (yet) for now just beetles haha perhaps we can plan a meet up some time? I am going to the Asheville mountains this summer with my two friends and probably going to do a lot of hunting while I am up there for both suitable substrate and different beetles.

Not sure, to be honest the only ones I like thus far are Lucanus and Dynastes mainly Dynastes, but I read in a book there were a few species around here i found one that had an eye looking pattern on it's back like a month ago and the ones earlier this week were small black ones.

AWESOME sounds fun! I really wish to find more dynastes in the wild. This searching is frustrating! I believe it's because I haven't searched big enough woods. Tomorrow will be my 3rd attempt.

Where in Ca can you find Granti? I have been living in ca my entire life and I have never seen a single one, lol. I would love to go collecting Granti myself.

Not sure haha I've read certain posts in other forums and one contact I used to speak to sold Granti at the time the price was and still is to me ridiculous ($100 per pair). He told me he collected in southern CA.

Lol, 100$ for a D.Granti pair??? The male should have been at least 5 inches for that price. I wish I knew a location to go collecting in the spring.

Yeah again ridiculous I'm glad I did not purchase them. I almost did before I read and acquired more knowledge on base prices for pairs and on how they are native species etc. I'm in the same boat with the whole tityus ordeal thus far haha

Ah interesting I did see a redish tint looking click beetle near there several in fact went back again and found more laying near the tree.
