I bought a kunugi since i have a stag beetle larvae. But i was wondering do i just shove the kunugi straight to the soil?

 
wait did it come in a bottle?

if it did then you should take off the top layer of the kunugi so that the soil shows then put in ur larvae.

what kind of larvae do u have? if it is of the dorcus species it is good to use kunugi. but if its a prosopocoilus, cyclommatus, hexarthrius, or lamprima then dont use kunugi. if its a phalacrognathus, allotopus, or a mesotopus then kunugi is practically manditory.

 
Im not sure what type of stag beetle larvae i got since im new. I basically pointed the beetle from the live specimens he had and showed me the larvae. The pincers instead of the normal curved shape this one seemed to be more straight. No the kunigi i bought was a marukun brand. It was just in a plastic bag

so he showed you the adult beetle?

did he call it nokogiri kuwagata?or ookuwagata? or hirata kuwagata?

if its nokogiri kuwagata then im sorry to tell you this but you have wasted ur money cuz prosopocoilus species dont live for to long.

but you will have a huge stag beetle when the beetle comes out.

 
oh yeah and too prepare the kunugi since its inside a plastic baggie, i think you could just dump it in a big plastic tank but make sure that the dirt fills to the top of the tank if it doesnt then use a smaller tank.

How do you know which larvae becomes a what type of beetles. For know i only know that Dynastes Hercules are yellowish. Atlas beetle larvae are white. Dorcus are red heads. Correct me if im wrong. So is there a way to find out what will they be. Since i only buy larvae from shops.

 
all stags are redheads by the way and i dont think there is a really accurate way to know what kind of beetle it is. how big is ur larvae?

 
What's kunigi? Is that the same as kinshi?

Larvae can be easy to tell apart by the shape of the body, hairs, head capsule, etc. but are certainly more difficult to identify than the adult.

 
Sorry Orin i spelled it wrong its suppose to be KUNUGI not kinigi my bad. Its a type of wood that people use to make shitaki mushroom.

Ah thanks Orin much appreciated. I just bought a couple more larvae. So right now i have 2 atlas beetle larvae. 1 Dynastes Hercules larvae, and one stag beetle larvae. The atlas beetles are a pair

yeah, I've also read elsewhere about this Kinshi (and "Kinshi bottle")

apparently there are several shrooms / fungi spores which are being used - like "Turkey tail mushroom", then also "Oyster mushroom".

I guess any kind of fungi which produces "white rot".

however as Ive heard that some particular fungi are better than others (like this Kinshi is one of the best ? )
