Hello from Maryland

Hey Beetle Forum, glad to find such a friendly community. I'm a Marylander with little experience in raising beetles, but enjoy studying local varieties. Hoping to expand the scope of species to look for in the area and get my Dynastes fix.

Any other members in the area/region/hemisphere?

Thank you Hisserdude, it seems to be a very helpful community.

Jordan, I split my time between Anne Arundel county and the eastern shore. But am often in the Winchester area. I'm going to start a topic about the area in general discussion if you wouldn't mind posting to it.

Good news, my favorite beetle is native to your state, of course it might not be that easy to locate D.tityus. Welcome.

Thank you for the welcome, and even more for the good news. I have been hoping to find a Dynastes beetle/larvae, though I wasn't sure if they live in Maryland.

Maybe I should try a county higher above sea level with less sand in the soil.

The larvae do not live in soil. You could try checking out a local collection at a university or extension office to locate areas specimens have been found.

Good idea! UMD has enormous facilities, and there must be a collection hidden in there somewhere. Maybe even a collector. Thank you for the advice Orin.

Welomce to the forum! Good luck on your quest to obtain some Dynastes tityus. I've been looking for some in my area as well.

Still unsuccessful. Maybe it is due to the fact that I have found an over abundance of Phileurus truncatus larvae in the places where should be finding Dynastes tityus larvae. Im going to start searching the Northern parts of FL.
