Having a problem with my L. elaphus larvae

I am currently breeding about 14 L. elaphus larvae but for some reason when they seems to be fully grown, they start to come up to the surface or move around a lot and their size starts to get smaller. Is there any way to prevent this?

This is probably just the normal progression as they wander and shrink before pupation. However, substrate that is too dry, fine, or with pests can lead to similar behavior.

I see.... So it is the normal process for the fully grown larvae to find a place to pupate. Last year, same thing happened to the fully grown larvae that I was keeping which pupated after wondering for few weeks. I guess I'll have to wait until they pupate.

Thank you for your reply Orin.
