Gymnetis flavomarginata

Has anyone breed this fine beelte past 1 gen? Also anyone have an accurate way of sexing pairs? by grubs perhaps? Some beetles are concave for males and convex for females. Is this true for G.flavomarginata?

Thanks all.

This is a somewhat uncommon wild beetle and all the ones in captivity are from stock collected around eight years ago. Chances are if you acquire any they are from the orginal stock. These are really easy to keep unlike the related Cotinis which are among the more difficult (not impossible). These and Osmoderma are the only really easy to breed USA flower beetles. Unfortunately this is one of the only species where telling male and female from adults is nearly impossible.

Thanks Orin. Let me guess who has been keeping them gen to gen.... you right? Well you said nearly impossible to sex, not impossible. Someone here must know. Anyone else? On a side note what do these beetles max out at and are they user friendly? Thanks.
