Gymnetis caseyi,

Ludite

Egg
Hello,

I'm new to this and got some G. caseyi larvae a few months ago. While doing a substrate change, I discovered what appears to be a pupal cell. I was wondering how long I should expect it to take to emerge(kept at about 70 F). Also, while searching for rotted wood to add to the substrate mix, I found a few Ceruchus piceus (my profile pic) and many many grubs which I assume are the same, being in close proximity. Does anyone raise these?

Ludite,

You have to handle the cell very carefully. If the container you have them in is small, you might move the cell to another, unoccupied container.

Keep the cell moist but not at all wet (too wet and it can collapse). Flower beetles make one cell and if it breaks it's time to feed them to a lizard or tarantula.

Ceruchus are neat but handling larvae often kills them.

how is the rearing of these different than say a Cotinis nitida?

I mean, as far as proper substrate for oviposition.

My first adult emerged today!!!

I was very excited (and surprised, to be quite honest.) I hope there will be more to come!
