Grub found

I found a grub under a pile of old leaves. Seems to be flower beetle of sorts. "Walks" on it's back and is roughly about 1.5" white bodied with a prominent orange head and formidable mandibles. When I first found it, it looked nothing like it does now. It was small with no prominent orange head. What stage do beetles acheive the large head with mandibles? I will upload a pic asap. Thanks.

The head and mandibles are always there and in proportion to each other though as the body gets larger they do not. If you have a scarab or relative the answer you're looking for is third instar.

Thanks Orin. Will I be able to sex it by the "dot" on the ventral side?
