It's actually not purposeful, they just defecate when they eat. We have them here in Louisiana - I know people that study them.

I have. Had them on display at the museum for a while. They always show up at blacklight.

This isn't about a beetle. It should belong to either "other discussion" or "other invertebrates" section.

The writer incorrectly calls them beetles. Those are true bugs in the order Hemiptera, family Reduviidae, the assassin bugs.
