Found this guy in the woods!

Not sure how to care for him. So far he's in coir with some oak.

I think he might be trying to pupate since he keeps curling up.

 
The curling up may just be its normal shape. Stick it in a few inches of damp leaf litter (without any earthworms).

 
Did that, the litter molded. Guess I did too damp. I'm going to let the deli dry out a bit and then I'll add more.
I dug up the little guy to make sure it wasn't dead, and it was definitely alive and kicking. Clumsy little thing. I gave it some roach nymphs on the chance it's carnivorous..either it didn't notice them, or it wasn't interested (which could indicate either a lack of carnivory, lack of interest in E.distanti specifically, or maybe it isn't hungry).

I've always stayed out of culturing Dynastes beetles because of the the larval period..this thing has me reconsidering that.
