False soil cocoons

Just wanted to share that I was able to save a larve that had a pupal cell destroyed by using a fruit fly container, and a mini gumball prize container. I used same mixture of soil and created a soil cell and then placed the "new" cell in the fruit fly container. Does anyone else have any other tips for this? Thanks for the help.

Very cool. I have heard that you can use rolled-together construction paper as artificial pupa cells as well. By the way, what's a mini gumball prize container?

INteresting post.

I have four Dynastes sp. pupa in artificial cells (flower foam), and would like to see how they progress.

Your method seems far smaller in scale, so I would be interested in seeing how well it works for you. Also, are the walls going to be too slippery for the beetle to turn over?
