Cryptoglossa Breeding Reports?

Hisserdude

I was sent larvae of a certain Tenebrionid species, but much to my surprise, today the first one eclosed, and it was not of that species, but is actually a Cryptoglossa muricata... Has anyone else ever reared a larva from this genus to maturity before?

It pupated shortly after I received it, and was shipped in warm weather, so it seems that much like Asbolus, a sharp rise in temperature is needed to get them to pupate. After they've pupated, they can be kept at room temps with little issue though.

That's really cool. I have caught many C muricata but have never tried to breed them. I actually have not tried to breed any tenebrionidae.

You should definitely try one day, would be great to get more people breeding Tenebs and get more species established in the hobby via captive breeding! 😁

Just as an update, I reared all three F1 larvae I received last year, and now I've gotten to F2 with these, could be the first to do so! :)  Here are some young F2 larvae:

Awesome! Great work!

Sorry if I should create another topic to ask this but I'm lazy, haha. You mentioned breeding blue death feigning beetles. I have seen a lot more posts lately of the casual beetle owner breeding A verrucosus. I guess basically you need to get the temperatures high (about 88 degrees) to get the larvae to pupate and then emerge. I wanted to get the opinion of the pro breeders like you. Do you find breeding A verrucosus pretty easy besides the high heat issue? Thank you for your input and keep us posted on your next generation of C muricata!
