Bio Wood

Hello beetle fans,

Im new here in the beetle breeding world. I need some help. I just bought a hercules beetle larvae L3 i believe since its almost the size of my palm. I bought a special soil for it the girl said it came with the required food and stuff and i also bought biowood since larvae hatch from dead trees. But my larvae seems to not go the that piece of wood.

What makes the matter worse is that some white fungus is growing on the wood. Any suggestions or is the wood a part of the nurtrious diet for the hercules beetle larvae?

Thanks

Steven

Hercules eat very rotten wood you could break apart with your hands, if it's solid it won't be touched. Wood fungus won't harm grubs. What is biowood?

i look forward to your advice. I cant remember the actual name of the japanese product. Since you know that beetle breeding in japan is big. Marukan is one of the major petlines. Its called Bio Mushroom Wood or something like that. I can't remember. Also i heard that when they go to their emergence stage it has to be kept in cold temperatures like 4degress Celsius or is it not necessary. Sorry for so much question.

I broke the down the wood. Looks like i didn't need the biowood. It seems like the soil i bought from the shop already had all the needed nutrients for the larvae no wonder it was a bit pricey.

Could you tell me pointers?

Anything i can do to make my larvae super big beetle ^^.

did you buy it in japan? was it called 'kunugi'? or sumthin like that? cuz that stuff is meant for stag beetles and definitely not for rhino beetles. if you want to have bigger beetles put some dog food into the dirt.

###### now that i think about it yes it only shows stag beetles. Oh well thanks so much. Why kind of dog food dry or the ones in can. Since i have a cat and has whiskas dried food i believe it is fish will that be ok. Could you please give me instructions how to mix it with the dirt. Thanks so much

well from what ive heard you need to use dry dog food and you can grind the dog food and mix it in with the dirt or you can just plop the dog food pellets into the dirt i havent really tried it yet. i dont know if cat food has the same the same effect or not.

Ah thanks you so much. One last question. Since they become a pupae underground. When they become an adult can they go out the dirt themselves? Or do i have to help them go out?

Looks like i asked abit late i just checked on it. Its in the middle of change into a pupae ^^ im so happy *sniff* *sniff* how long will they stay in that state? what are the ways of caring them when they are this state?

it will stay in its pupal state for about two weeks from my experience. there is not alot you can do for it when its a pupa or a pre-pupa, just make sure its pupal cell(dirt cocoon sorta thing) doesn't break. and if it does get some blocks of those green foam things that people use for flowers and stuff and with a spoon make a oval shape that is vertical(for stag beetles make it horizontal). ask others for some more info.

I just check it seems my larvae wasnt in the pupation process it was just me wishing. But i did notice that his arms are super red and he seems to have a big red bloch on his body. What is it?

I saw this when i moved him to new soil since i saw some signs of mites.

The legs are normally reddish brown to black. The spot is damage (a scab), as long as there's nothing else wrong with him the spot probably won't interfere with pupation when he's ready.

Ah i see. Since you guys helped me a lot i was wondering if u guys want some larvae from the philippines. I live in Hong Kong. But im going to philippines on vacation and i live in the province. So i could get a lot of larvae if you guys want you just have to pay is the postage.
