    Pelidnota punctata --

I know this is considered one of the ugly jewel scarabs but it is a very pretty and metallic beetle when alive. I live up north and this is the first adult I've ever caught. I found another one the next evening. Last time I saw any here was about 11 years ago when I found some larvae in a rotten...

    Noisy Trogidae

I got a half dozen of these last year and have picked them up a number of times and they've remained quiet. However, the other day I picked up one and it was making strange squeaking noises like mad (sort of frog like and nothing like the sqeaking of rhinoceros beetles though possible formed the...

    Osmoderma eremicola

I cannot know what you saw but I am rather familiar with this species. I have kept Osmoderma eremicola for a few decades and have never seen an animal make an actual pupal cell more than once. It may not be impossible but it is highly improbable. However, something most people do not know about...

    Meloe active near winter

I only run into a Meloe female every so many years. In the past I've found them around midsummer but this one was found yesterday. They can live quite a few months on honey but for some reason they never seem to lay eggs.

    Uknown Beetle

I found a pair of these last year miles apart. This is the male. The female is completely black and has normal antennae. Both have good sized mandibles and were around 20mm. I haven't searched much for identification information but I've never seen this beetle before ever. Anybody familiar with...
