Yeah I kinda was tempted to take him home he was so beautiful. <3 I have bess beetles at the house but I decided to leave the clicker cuase I didn't know how to go about caring for them at the time.Nice finds man! I love Alaus, hope you find more!![]()
Aww, well they are pretty easy to care for. They like fruits, particularly oranges, but will eat banana and apple as well.Yeah I kinda was tempted to take him home he was so beautiful. <3 I have bess beetles at the house but I decided to leave the clicker cuase I didn't know how to go about caring for them at the time.
Oh wow. Rough little bugs.Aww, well they are pretty easy to care for. They like fruits, particularly oranges, but will eat banana and apple as well.Breeding is a bit more tricky, and the larva are extremely predatory and cannibalistic.![]()
Yeah, the larva are frightening little beasts, here's a picture of one! (Not my picture):Oh wow. Rough little bugs.
Oh really? Cause I've been seeing tons of those lately in logs. o.oYeah, the larva are frightening little beasts, here's a picture of one! (Not my picture):

Well if they are large and look like that, then you are probably seeing Alaus grubs. Logs are their preferred habitat, as well as many other click beetles' habitats as well. Next time you see some you should collect them, and try to rear them to adulthood!Oh really? Cause I've been seeing tons of those lately in logs. o.o
That sounds like a good plan! I gotta get some more containers though.Well if they are large and look like that, then you are probably seeing Alaus grubs. Oh yeah, get really sturdy plastic containers or glass ones, as these can chew through thin plastic no problem. That sounds like a good plan! I gotta get some more containers though.
Geeze these guys sound intense. XDOh yeah, get really sturdy plastic containers or glass ones, as these can chew through thin plastic no problem.
Yeah, they are pretty vicious! My A.melanops larva has been unable to chew out of a plastic peanut butter jar, so something like that would work nicely. Deli cups however would probably not hold them.Geeze these guys sound intense. XD
Sounds good! I actually have tons of ground beetles right at my apartment every night! I can grab you as many as I can since I find well over 10 a night. XD Fast little guys though. If you are still out doing any bug hunting in Maryland and you come across any Chlaenius, let me know! Maybe we can work out a deal.![]()
