Stag Beetles
Obviously, the warrior beetle is carnivorous, but during the winter when food is scarce, and i don't really want to buy food, can I feed the beetle fruit?
Betta132
Carnivorous animals don't do well on herbivorous diets. I'd suggest buying mealworms or something similar and culturing your own insects to feed to the beetle.
Stag Beetles
I fed the warrior beetle a mealworm, but it hasn't eaten it. What should I do?
arizonablue
Don't worry about it, just keep it supplied with food and it will eat when it's hungry. If your weather is colder now it may just be slowing down a bit and won't be requiring as much food.
Stag Beetles
ok, thanks so much, guys! it seems to be ok now, and just ate a mealworm (maybe it just wasn't hungry).
Pewrune
I've fed warriors gecko food before. maybe they eat stuff with high protein?
Hisserdude
They can eat fruit occasionally, but live or pre-killed prey must be offered at all times still, otherwise they may die. Honestly, I have a hard time getting my Pasimachus to eat anything but pre-killed prey, I'd suggest decapitating the mealworms before feeding them to your beetle. AlexW
Carabids are omnivorous and will eat fruit and non-living animal protein, such as dried insects and fishfood. Boiling frozen shrimp, other invertebrate meat (clams, etc) or fish (make sure no sauces, seasoning, or anything else is present) is probably a good idea. Species with less-specialized, smaller jaws will eat grainy foods and meaty vegs (corn, peas, squash). Pasimachus might try, but its huge jaws probably get in the way.
