I hate the smell of their enclosure with the oats in it, so I am wondering if they can be kept and bred in coconut fiber like normal darklings? Thanks in advance! AlexW Posted May 31, 2014 Report Share Posted May 31, 2014 I'm sure this is possible, but it isn't the oats - mealworms seem to naturally have foul smell about them, and if you think the oats themselves don't smell good, you can try wheat bran. Hisserdude Posted June 1, 2014 Author Report Share Posted June 1, 2014 I have already moved them and they are reproducing. The smell has gone, I think the oatmeal went bad in their cage. Also the oatmeal was infested with mites so i had to move them. I'm keeping them in coconut fiber mixed with sand and dead leaves. Thanks!
