Where to find Rotten Oaks in S. CA

can anyone who lives in southern california offer some advices on where would be a good location to gather decay oak wood?

i go to modjeska canyon, alot of burned wood/ rotten wood there.

There's alot of maple and oak there so you should probably check it out

Placerita Canyon has an abundance of oaks, mostly coastal and canyon oaks. You can find them along many of the hiking trails next to the nature center. There is a hike that leads to a waterfall- you might find some rotting wood there. I haven't gone all the way out to the falls, so it's unknown what tree species are closest to the falls, but you can collect the dry wood further up the trails and just start a rotting process yourself.

I would try locating a list of parks in your area. This is a good palace to start. Usually the rangers don't mind me taking dead leaves and rotten wood. As long as I don't leave it a mess.
