My male Rhino beetle has finished his pupation cycle, and has not dug himself out of the dirt yet. He is moving around a bit, and has turned himself upside down. Is it safe to dig him out of there, or do I have to wait?
I would Waite a little bit, for his shell to harden. But if you must get him out I would be very careful not to move him around to much. Which specie of beetle is it by the way?
I believe it is Trypoxylus dichtomus, according to another forum member here, and pictures online. How will I know his shell is hardened? Thanks for the help!
If he is freshly emerged from the pupa he will spend a few more weeks just sitting in his cell. If you dig him up before he is ready he will just attempt to dig back down and hide himself again. When he is mature he will dig himself to the surface and start wandering around on top.
