Various beetle question.

Dear all,

I would want to know how long it takes for Megasoma Elephus, Dynastes Titys, and Dynasters Hercules take to mature.

Does Megasoma Elephus or Dynastes titys cannibalize cause i put a pair in each container. I was just wondering cause i read online for these species its good if you put them in the same container for they grow better.

Regards,

Steven

The time required to reach maturity for those is 36 months, (12,18,24) and 12 to 24. There's a lot of variability in both rearing and genetics, D.tityus may take 12,18 or 24 but even the 12 months ones can take up to three years under some conditions.

There are pros and cons to keeping dynastinae larvae together.

Dear Orin

Could you please share the pros and cons of keeping them together. The Dynastes Tittys is in a 5L container full height, and the Megasoma Elephus is in a 10L container. Instead of putting dog pellets to make them bigger is putting fresh apple lets say ok?Because i heard dog pellets call a lot of soil mites ;p?

Also I was wondering about this species Cheirotonus macleayi how long does it take to mature?

Regards,

Steven

P.S Im sorry for asking too many questions.

How many do you have in those containers?

Some people have done incredibly well with my dog food discovery while others just make a big mess. It has to be fed in such a way that the larvae eat it all, not just piles thrown in blindly. I think all the Cheirotonus take two years for most people.

For my Megasoma and Tittys i put a pair. Can i use my cat food? Or is there a dog food with a brand that seems to work wonders? I want my monster lol. Btw, i read For the love of Stag and Rhino beetle. Didn't know you co-write it.

What is the proper procedure to put the pellets?

Best Regards,

Steven

You have to get the grubs to eat the pellets and not feed more than they'll eat. Tender vittles cat food used to be a popular one to use for grubs but they don't make it anymore.

Can i just put it on the surface?? Should it be soaked? So its easier to clean ^^.

Regards,

Steven

I find that some of my larvae will happily munch through the dog food whilst others, (of the same species), won't touch it! If it's left for more than a day or two then soil mites swarm to it. With the larvae that haven't been interested in the dog food I've switched to feeding apple. Definately put them on the surface, if you do get soil mites then they're easy to see and remove.

Thx kerry ^^

You can use also Fishfood (Flackes) or Koi-Sticks...

But i don´t know if Dynastidae Larva eat this things.

I try it even with Dynastes satanas.

Koi Sticks (1cm = 0,4" inch.)

Koi Sticks are a "waterfood" so it is more resistant against molds.

Use it carefully only 2-3 Sticks per Larva or 34 per pair.

I hear about Catfood are not good it have more protein than dog food ?

To much protein will kill your Larva (Grubs

I experimented with fish flakes at early larval stages with D. tityus. They took to it readily, but as they grew they seemed to ignore it.
