This may sound ridiculous but does anyone use heat sources for their beetles?

Sorry, but just have to ask. California obviously doesn't get too cold, but for some of the beetles I own that prefer desert environments, I wonder if it ever gets too cold in here. I know deserts can get really cold at night, but beetles have the natural environment to work with. This old house gets really cold sometimes (for me, at least), sometimes it drops to mid 50's. For beetles that prefer 70's and up, what do you think? (Blue death feigning, darkling, Bess) Thanks!

 
I think it will be fine as long as it won't drop below 32. They can probably handle 50s as one of my Coelocnemis from CA has been exposed to 40s during winter and still managed to live without any problems

I would not use a heatpad considering that they have very soft bodies that contain lots of water. You could experiment with some but I would not be surprised if they stayed at the top the entire time. Usually where larvae live they are very well insulate under ground or inside a tree stump. I think it would be better to keep the room in the optimal temperature range.
