Sudden Death

My L2 Dynastes Granti larva died,

i don't know what's the reason. He molted on the surface of the substrate on7/15/12. Then died today. For some reason, he didn't go back in the substrate. The substrate was moist. So...anyone know what's the reason?

Could it have had a bad molt?

With Tarantulas sometimes (some species rarer than others) they can have a bad molt.

no he molted perfectly so i don't think it was the molting problem

no infection, i just checked this morning

He was just laying out on the surface not moving.

It's not a surprise. I've seen that happen to some of my grantii larvae too.

I call them the "unlucky" larvae. It might have to do with the genetics but who knows.

Did you have food for the larva buried in the substrate--wood at the proper level of decay?
