Substrate

What kinds of substrate do you guys normally use?? I have this for some L3 dynastes larvae it is a mixture of 50/50 oak and oak leaves. Rotted of course. I tend to bake my substrate and also use a ninja blender to blend it into what feels like super soft coffee grinds. What other methods of substrate besides kinish bottles are there? Anyone have any other methods? I plan to do some protein experiments once I obtain L1 larvae to see if I can somehow find a better protein supplement than dog food. Here's a picture of what it currently looks like I plan to add more to it later today hopefully.

ok so my old unusable substrate looked actually great but was overrunned by earthworms... so i poured some water in and microwaved it 10 minutes... well 3 minutes 3 times and 1 minute for the last... i think it worked because the substrate is boiling hot and i see melted earthworms... also burned mites... but it smells so bad... smells like someone threw up.... my parents wont let me do it again when they are in the house... so ill just do it to the rest next time

i used 50 percent oak saw dust, 30 percent elder/pine, and f20 percent leaves... ill show oyu the result... later

Have you considered baking it instead?? Also, shipping today I apologize for the delay I had snow Friday and work Saturday and Sunday also yesterday the postal office was closed.

NO... i thought microwaving was much simpler so i did it... my substrate needs 1 more month before using but i used it anyways... i have now some aloeus larvae that is half dead so ill see....
