i went to hiking today and i picked up some oak branches that were on the ground

Do i break them into little pieces and ferment them?

i find it a little hard to break them with bare hands

if I am not mistaken, the ones you want should be easily broken by your hand which means they have naturally decayed to a certain level, then depending on which species you are breeding, you will need to ferment them further
