Storing flake soil?

I’m curious to how you guys store flake soil. I’ve seen some people freeze, which is efficient in small batches.

I’ve also heard of others who put soil into sealed plastic tubs, however, whenever I try this the soil just ends up smelling like poop and turning light brown.

I would store it outside, but then it would continue to ferment or get invaded by outside organisms.

so I’m just curious to see people techniques for storage!

Freezing is highly recommended for a long term storage. Sealed box is also great way to keep it especially when you need some portions of it occasionally. However, you will have to keep it low humidity, and must aerate it time to time (every other day or weekly, biweekly, differs per case by case).

Drying the substrate completely is not recommended. If it continues to ferment, that may be even better for some species (once it is done).
