stag beetle larvae???

why do some guys get the stag beetle larvae out of the wood and put it in a regular rhino beetle soil??? does this make it better? my rugose stag beetle larvae seems to drill hole into pieces of wood instead of soil... does this method work for all stags? thanks

it's not a regular soil. It's a substrate of fermented sawdust.

Yes, and it gets quite dark. You can find this some places in the wild but it isn't too hard to make at home.
