N. americana breeding project

Amici Con Coleotteri

Cerambycidae
Caught about 9 adult Necrophila americana over the weekend and I couldn't have been more thrilled (I previously caught 1 single guy that's been alone too long, party time!

). They are awesomely animated little creatures and the larvae are just as cool. These guys will also soon be featured in various presentations that are in the works, to teach kids how important insects are.

I plan to get this bunch established (they are already paired and mating

), raise up a nice colony, and once it thrives I will have them for sale, and I will be releasing a small group (probably 10 because that's what I caught) with every generation, weather permitting of course, to keep them alive in my area...I'd hate to see them go the way of Nicrophorus americanus.

Anyway...very stoked on this, and anyone interested in any adults should certainly keep in touch.

Found 2 on some feces in the woods (along with a little dungie to match the one I already have

) and the rest on a dead frog or toad...first time I encountered these was also on a dead frog or toad, just had to add that

. They go through dead pinkies like there life depends on it!

I love these little guys!
