I got my first male rainbow stag beetle about 7 months ago and he died yesterday — we had a really bad heatwave in Southern CA this past week that had the daily temps over 98-106 degrees each day. I don’t have AC in my apartment and would have gotten one, but each day the news kept saying it’d break tomorrow … As much as I am disappointed in myself for not taking good enough care of my beetle, I also was not taking care of myself and will be getting an AC unit setup for the next heatwave. I hope to get another beetle because I loved having him, but very much want to do better with the next one.
In addition to managing heat, I have also been insecure about maintaining moisture in the enclosure. I misted the enclosure with a soft spray bottle every day or two, but see posts about how it’s important to have it moist enough that it’d clump. I don’t know how to keep it that moist. How do you?
