Actually, they are really easy to keep as adults. They go through a surprising amount of apple. Unfortunately, adult D. granti only live for a few months. Larvae take about two years to mature and are pretty easy to raise as larvae, though I've had some problems with containers that get too dry (with eggs too). I live in a somewhat cold location, so my ova from the previous late-summer's adults don't usually hatch until the following summer when it warms back up again. When they hatch they do need to remain in humid substrate or they will dry up pretty quickly. The larvae are pretty easy to care for. Very low maintenance, but there are a few problems that arise, occasionally. I've never had much luck with pupation.
I've heard that the D. tityus make better captive pets because they mature more quickly and live longer as adults.
