I was changing out my Lucanus sp. Larval substrates today and I noticed one of the pieces of wood was vibrating and making a little squeeking noise. Upon further investigation I found an L3 larva inside the chunk of wood and it was stridulating whenever the wood was bumped. I was unaware that the larva made any noise. Has anyone else heard their Lucanus larva squeek at them?
