L2
recently, I got some oakflake from peter and wanted to switch it out. So I did half and half compost and oak flake I noticed after that I didnt see them on the bottom or sides as much probably eating the oak flake in the center. Until recently my megasoma punt. has been rather... inactive? I typically check the cups every once in a while and not take them out until a month later but I got a little worried seeing my L2 be a little slow and not go much anywhere.

Is this common for them to just stay in one spot for a week? Is it maybe lethargic bc it's entering the next stage? Or is it because he's unhappy with the mixture of oak flake AND compost?

And that also leads me to another question.... What are the signs of molting to the next stage?

Megasoma species are not a wanderer kinds of species. They may stay in one spot for as long as they want to feed on substrate. Then they will move on to other spot of the bottle (or container). If you are too worried, go ahead open up the container. There is pretty much no other solution to have your worry goes away. But, larvae does not always be seen at the side or bottom of the container, unless the container is small and narrow.
