Leg stretching while breeding?

I paired a male and female dynastes tityus today for my lab in class and first of all as a funny side note, the male tried mating with my finger before making a mess of the lab table!! Lol! But then he finally got on top of the female. Question 1, if he released his sperm on the table, did he have any left when he mounted the female? And question 2, as they mated, he slowly waved and 'stretched' one of his back legs as they mated. What is this behavior?

Yes he would, males in the wild mate with multiple females and thus don't use all of their sperm, and the leg waving was probably because he couldn't find where to grab onto the female, unless he was trying to tell everyone to back off.
