L. Elaphus

I'm looking for some lucanus elaphus males/pairs, as well as other stag or rhino beetles. Send me a message if you have anything! I would be happy to purchase or possibly trade! (I don't have too much to offer right now)

I would love to have a live pair, but dried are also great for my collection. I can't seem to find anyone that sells them dried.

Yes a different genus in the same family

Of course it's possible to find them dried. Look on ebay:

54mm - $90 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Insect-Lucanus-elaphus-USA-Male-54mm-/160906888610

53mm - $60 (auction) or $80 (Buy it now) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coleoptera-Lucanus-elaphus-53mm-Male-Lucanid-Stag-Beetle-from-Indiana-Insect-Bug-/281166926862

I have one 52mm long. I can sell it to you for half that price - $30. I have many other dried stag beetles, both rare and common inexpensive ones.

Check for example this topic:

Wow..seriously? people sell L.Elaphus dried for over $30?..I don't know the exact price for these but i feel like this is a rip off.

No rip off here. Large individuals go by higher final prices in auctions. If you think this is crazy, check what a large Goliathus beetle or Titanus giganteus are sold for.
Asking $30 for a nice large male Lucanus (not only L. elaphus) sounds alright to me.

Oak, from what I read L. elaphus has broad distribution, but is rather uncommon, or more correctly "infrequently encountered".
Read for example Ted MacRae's blog - http://beetlesinthebush.wordpress.com/2010/12/30/north-americas-largest-stag-beetle/

I've never found one myself in Louisiana. It might be quite common in certain places. Oak, do you find them often?

Anyway, it's sold for good money, well over $30 abroad:

I have only two specimens - repairable 55mm and A1 52mm and I'm not eager to sell it cheaper than $30. If I'd sell it on ebay I'd set starting price at ~$40.

Interesting thing is larvae of L. elaphus are incredibly abundant in south eastern US but adults are hard to encounter. I myself often find 20~30 larvae in a single area but hardly any adults are found in same place. I wonder if it is natural selection playing role in here or I'm just not looking for them too often.

Thanks for the info..i don't find them, but larva and adults are pretty cheap from what i hear..

I find larvae all the time, not too much of a fan of stag beetles. However, I've only found a live male specimen live once in the wild.

I would love to raise larvae, but I won't be able to keep them past January or so :/ so I'm really just looking for a little pet, I am trying to get my D granti to breed and if I am successful, I will probably sell the eggs or larvae around then.
