Import permit, would you do it under this circumstance?

I want to import at least 3 species, one being the recently legal Goliathus goliathus. The process seems easy but the last step is entering my social security number on the site. It is required so there is no way around it. I am paranoid about identity theft, etc. I just get worked up about that kind of stuff. Would you enter your personal information to attempt to get a permit to import foreign species?

True, I'm always paranoid. Did you ever try importing any other species using this permit? If so, were you denied?

Wow! I just want to try and import Goliathus goliathus, Dynastes hercules hercules, and Dynastes hercules lichyi the legal way.

Presumably this is a secure government website you're submitting the information to, yes? If it is I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes. You can either: follow through with the permit clearance -or- wait until having a Goliath is a "normal" thing and you don't need a letter any more.

The only beetles that you don't need an actual permit for are: Bess Beetles (Odontotaenius disjunctus), dung beetles, ground beetles and now the three Goliathus I mentioned. Other than that nothing has changed regarding permitting. Everything else would need some type of permit or clearance.

If anything had changed on Dynastes I would have posted about it - maybe some day.

If I keep calling USDA/APHIS like you did for Goliathus species, do you think they might change their mind for some Dynastes species?

No, sorry. I have contacts there - and I was researching Goliathus and sending documents about their life cycle. If Dynastes had the same feeding habits it might work, or if things change with rotten hardwood being classified the same as food plants.
