I caught 6 click beetles ( Aeolus species ) the other day. i have seen them mating and would like to get larva from them. will they lay eggs in coco fiber/eco earth? does the substrate need to be moist or dry? and what do the larva eat? i have been feeding the adults dog food and bits of apple. sorry for all the questions.

As far as i know, larvae of this genus are vegetarians. So what I would do is keep the adults in moist eco earth with potatoes buried under the substrate.

I just moved them to a bigger cage so I can put a potato in with them, and in their substrate I found little click beetle larva! Hopefully I can rear them to adults!

Turns out these larva look like mini Alaus sp grubs, and act like them too! What started a dozen larva has turned into 2. Oh well, lol.

That's cool you got them to lay eggs. I've kept different click beetle larvae that I find, now when I catch a live metallic click beetle I will put it in a container with sub.

Nice beetle

Thanks! If you do try to breed some click beetles I would love to see some pictures. Not enough people keep these guys, in my opinion they are a very cool group of beetles. The lack of interest probably has to do with the fact that most click beetles are really small, and drab colored.
