I’ve seen a number of new shops pop up offering some of the more exotic species, has something changed for the US hobby? I’ve been out of the hobby for a little bit, so last I heard was about the deregulation of some Goliath species.
Have US regulations changed recently?

Not yet, even though someone recently said they weren't regulating foreign stag beetles in CA, which I do not believe.

I saw that. Here is the .gov document link, but it only says you can import or ship them within CA; not necessarily that you can own them.
