Very cool! I know I probably have a bunch of them in my backyard but they are very elusive. How long have you been keeping this one?

i also found larvae... the larvae seems to be very shy... not biting grass... not aggressive... this tiger beetle is still alive.. i have more pictures on my facebook...

There are other species of Amblycheila in the US, but the O. dejeani is the largest Omus as far as I know. I might like to get a few specimens of these from you to send along with some I'm gathering from other collectors in the Pacific NW. I'm sending them to a scientist that is going to do DNA barcoding on them to determine species/speciation. I'm only able to collect two species of Omus in my local area, but it is possible there are undescribed species in the PNW.

i spent few days trying to catch more but i cant seem to find them... i look undew logs, moss, bark, rocks... nothing but some ants and small black beetles

Yeah, it's one of those bugs that I can usually find all the time so I just don't think to list them. But you're right. I should!

Did you get the substrate from where you found the beetle? From what I've read, it seems like these beetles do best when they have soil from their area, but that hasn't been definitively shown. Tough group to breed and good luck!

nope, it was just temporary... but later i used WA clay where i see larvae holes on ground

but all larvae and beetle died because my containers got overheated
