Hi!! I started keeping beetles in May this year.
I have two separate cases. One, I recently lost an L2 goliathus that I presume had too many mites and died. It went from looking great to being black to being dead. Now, yesterday I noticed it’s sibling (also an L2) appears to be constipated? I assume that I must have had its substrate, which is oak flake soil, too dry? Additionally, it has a red dot close to where the male sexual organ would be? Idk what to do.
my L3 female is doing great, but potentially losing two out of the three I started with has really killed my mood.
my next question is about cyclommatus metallifer premature beetle death. My first male emerged August 8th. He died yesterday (September 12th). I had not fed him, because with my rainbow stags I don’t feed for 1.5-2 months after eclosure. My only theory is I messed with him too much too soon after eclosure, I’m really really hoping my golden male is going to be fine, but I’m still bummed about losing one. Having multiple issues going on is making me so stressed out, I feel like I’m failing already.
attached a photo of the seemingly constipated L2 last night. He looks slightly better today but his vent is still open and has some fecal matter inside.
